Should a 6.5 yr old be held back and repeat 1st grade or go to summer school to better her grade?
Not tested for Dyslexia, or ADHD. Suffering in Math, Reading improved and still improving since Reading Recovery (tutoring program), Reading is average and one step behind most classmates.She has an older brother, she has a leappad device, she is stubborn, and thinks she is untouchable (cocky in a manner of speaking).
May not be ADHD but she has gone through a lot of changes and some trauma (divorce & brother staying this past school yr w/ grandparents).
I am a high school teacher so holding her back makes sense, yet so does summer school.
A 6.5 year old can't be cocky, they are only trying to find boundaries. Putting her through summer school will only make things harder for her. Don't hold her back, help her move forward. Try some summer camps where she will have Fun Learning how to socialize and co-operate.
