My vacation to the truly multicultural city of LONDON.

London Bridge is calling me, calling me

London Bridge is calling me, my fair hubby.

 

So, this was the song I spoofed and sang before my dearest hubby, to bribe him to take me for a vacation to my favourite spot, LONDON. And like any others, we started browsing on the largest city in Western Europe and also on slick  travel deals.

 The main idea of our trip to the capital of the UK was to absorb ourselves into a world of mesmerizing local culture, which is definitely a conglomeration of  fashion, finance, politics and trade.  Truly, I now realize that London is a mixed bag of sorts. You’ll find yourself spoilt in some of the ‘untouched by modernism’ places, while one part of the city is so much brimming with fashion and style of the present era. It was a dramatic experience for us to see all those wonderful places, which we just heard of before. Trust me, seeing is believing. Now, we know why this is such a hot-spot destination for travel lovers.

 

So, how did we go ? We chose the Virgin Atlantic airlines. I should especially mention the warmth exuberance of the inflight crew. Though I was secretly jealous of those beautiful damsel-like hostesses. After asking my husband to stop gawking, we dug on to the delicious breakfast served as soon as we settled in.  The food had choices. Yes, I had heard of vegetarian choices on the other airlines, but the comfort of choosing between kosher, vegetarian and gluten-free meals made a huge difference. And to top it all, I noticed an elderly lady being served a special medical meal(Provided with a booking beforehand.)

And those ‘little extras’, as they call them. An amenity kit ( with some essentials… Somehow, my husband always forgets his toothbrush while travelling, but we didn’t have to worry about it for this time atleast.) And then there ‘s some free stuff like newspapers, magazines and even a gift hamper to the little ones. Yes, they made sure everyone’s happy.

. The journey was 5 hours and was it smooth?? You bet. There was this in-flight entertainment too, powered in with an individual TV set for each seat. There was definitely a wider legroom too. I was so glad to find out that I had no cramps after such a long journey too.

 Thanks to Virgin, we landed in the famous London Heathrow Airport without even knowing !! The customs were cleared smoothly, and we headed out to our hotel. The cab service was prompt and excellent and we had little trouble in reaching our destination. We decided to hit the sack and then explore the magical city the next morning , with a fresher energy.

 Home to most of the city's main tourist attractions, as well as an enormous number of pubs, clubs, bars and theatres.

                    West End - Greatest concentration of hotels, restaurants, world class shopping and theatres as well as the famous Chinatown.

                   Bloomsbury - Academic and intellectual area, many of the University of London's constituent colleges are based here.

                   Clerkenwell - Home of several old churches and popping up with new restaurants and clubs.

                  City of London - The historical and financial core of the city.

                  Holborn - Heart of legal London.

                   Marelybone -  Check out Madame Tussauds and walk along Baker Street, retracing Sherlock Holmes's footsteps.

                    Mayfair  - Most elegant and fashionable area of London.

                    South bank - A vibrant, artsy area fronting the river Thames that is home to the London Eye.

                  Westminister - A city in its own right, and home of the United Kingdom parliament and Royal Family.

 

After a three day visit to the busiest city in the world, we definitely have fond memories to look back. As we watch ourselves in those pictures of us before the Queen’s Palace, we do nothing but beam. We are always tempted to go back again to the hub of entertainment. And yeah, we are counting on   Virgin yet again.
